Quantifying the errors in animal contacts recorded by proximity loggers

چکیده
Automated contact detection by means of proximity loggers permits the measurement encounters between individuals (animal-animal contacts) and time spent in a focal resource interest (animal-fixed logger contacts). The ecological inference derived from is intrinsically associated with distance at which occurred. But no currently exist that record this therefore all estimations are error. Here we applied probabilistic approach to model relationship inter-logger distance, quantify error, on free-ranging animals semi-controlled settings. probability recording declined loggers, decline was steeper for weaker radio transmission powers. Even when were adjacent, not guaranteed, irrespective power. Accordingly, precision sensitivity system varied as function power, experimental setting (e.g., depending animal body mass fine-scale movements). By accounting these relationships, able estimate detected occurred certain contacts missed (i.e., false negatives). These calibration exercises have potential improve predictability study enhance applicability key wildlife management issues such disease rates or use landscape features resources.

Calibrating animal‐borne proximity loggers
Growing interest in the structure and dynamics of animal social networks has stimulated efforts to develop automated tracking technologies that can reliably record encounters in free-ranging subjects. A particularly promising approach is the use of animal-attached 'proximity loggers', which collect data on the incidence, duration and proximity of spatial associations through inter-logger radio ...

Proximity in agreement errors
Across languages subject-verb agreement errors have been established when subjects are producing complex (NP PP) noun-phrases (see Bock, 1995, for an overview). Very recently, Haskell & MacDonalds (2002) proposed a locality-based principle, the principle of proximity, to explain a variety of agreement errors in production. They base they argument partly on preferences in verb number marking in ...

Visualizing and quantifying movement from pre-recorded
When studying animal behaviour within an open environment, movement-related data are often important for behavioural analyses. Therefore, simple and efficient techniques are needed to present and analyze the data of such movements. However, it is challenging to present both spatial and temporal information of movements within a two-dimensional image representation. To address this challenge, we...
